University of Pittsburgh: Had top marks of 43-2.5 (13.17m) in shot put as soph, 141-1 (43.00m) in discus throw as soph, and 164-0 (49.99m) in hammer throw as soph. Big East, ECAC and IC4A qualifier for Panthers. Also had top mark indoors of 53-4.5 (16.27m) as junior in weight throw.

High school: Competed in track and field and basketball for Desert Ridge High School in Mesa, Ariz. Runner-up at state meet in discus throw and also state qualifier in shot put. Competed in USA junior championships.
