STEPHENVILLE -- Already in a hole in terms of getting back into the chase for a spot in the Lone Star Conference Post-Season Tournament, the ACU Wildcats lost another game Sunday afternoon.
But this one wasn't to the Tarleton State TexAnns; instead it was to the rain.
Sunday's series finale was called in the middle of the fourth inning after the teams waited out an hour rain delay, began play and then had to stop again around 4:30 p.m. because of more rain. Shortly after the second delay began, the game was called and won't be made up.
The Wildcats -- who dropped two games on Friday -- were leading 10-7 when the game was stopped as the teams were about to play the bottom of the fourth.
Brianna Fowlkes had homered and driven in four runs for the Wildcats, while Shawna Barrow had also homered and driven in three runs for ACU, which trailed 5-1 after the first inning before scoring three runs in the third and six in the fourth to take the lead.
The Wildcats are 18-26 overall and 3-8 in the LSC South Division, 3.5 games behind Texas A&M-Kingsville (7-5) for fourth place in the division. The top four teams in each division will qualify for the post-season tournament. ACU has a home series with last-place Eastern New Mexico and a road series against first-place West Texas A&M remaining in conference play. The Wildcats must win out and get some help in order to qualify for the tournament.
The Wildcats are set to return to action Tuesday when they host St. Edward's in a 5 p.m. non-conference doubleheader at Wells Field.
