Simms Named Freshmen of Year

BARTLESVILLE, OK – The ACU men were honored Tuesday night at the annual postseason Lone Star Conference awards banquet with freshmen Dosh Simms highlighting the night. The awards announcement came Tuesday night at a pre-championship banquet in Bartlesville, Okla., where the LSC Basketball Championship tournament is set to begin on Wednesday.
Simms earned a special honor for ACU as he was the first freshmen to be named LSC Freshmen of the year for his play this season with the Wildcats. He averaged 4.7 rebounds per game during conference play adding 5.8 points per game as well. Simms earned valuable minutes down the stretch playing mostly as a forward as the Wildcats finish was disappointing the freshmen will add valuable experience for ACU.
Junior Eddie Thompson also earned all-LSC honorable mention honors for his exciting play during the conference season. Thompson led ACU in scoring and was seventh in the LSC averaging 14.6 points per game. He was solid from the free-throw line as he not only led the Wildcats, but led the Lone Star Conference in free throw percentage shooting 93% on the season. He was regarded as the Wildcats big shot shooting 37% from behind the three-point arc including a trey that brought the Wildcats within seconds of upsetting then No. 9-ranked Midwestern State.
ACU also placed two players on the LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll for their achievement as a student-athlete. Senior Riley Lambert earned his third consecutive honor to the Commissioner's Honor Roll as a Wildcat. Sophomore Sawyer Reed picked up his first honors on the squad.
To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must have reached sophomore status and carry at least a 3.30 grade point average. The All-Academic Team is selected from the list of academically qualified players, with the league's sports information directors voting on the basis of both academic and athletic achievement. All qualifying student-athletes not selected for the All-Academic Team are then named to the Honor Roll.
