Wells Field will serve as the Wildcats’ softball home for the 14th season in 2010. The field was officially dedicated as the A.E. (Poly)?and Zieta Wells Field on Saturday, March 29, 1997. Dr. Gary McCaleb, vice president of the university, gave the dedication in honor of Zieta and her late husband, A.E. After the death of her husband, Zieta Wells made an estate gift to the university to finance a major portion of the stadium.
The Wildcats?actually played their first game on the field on Feb. 22, 1997, when they swept a doubleheader against Texas Wesleyan. ACU?won its first eight games and 10 of its first 11 at Wells Field.
