ABILENE – A simple message Sunday, from ACU head coach Kellen Mock was delivered to her players in a single word: win.
“It's simple we have to win and not let others determine our fate when November rolls around,” Mock said on reporting for the 2010 squad. “We have a great group of returners that know how to win and a good mix of freshmen who are winners as well. A few bad losses have kept us out (the regional tournament) the past two years and we have to be the ones who determine our fate.”
ACU will begin the season exactly where it started last season. Picked second in the Lone Star Conference Preseason poll behind West Texas A&M. The Lady Buffs finished last season undefeated in the LSC. And for the second straight season, the Lady Buffs ended ACU's season in the LSC Post-Season Tournament championship match on their way to a national runner-up finish to Concordia-St. Paul.
The Wildcats have plenty of familiar faces in 2010, inculding two Lone Star Conference pre-season picks, seniors Shawna Hines and E.J. Moronu. Hines led the nation in blocks a season ago and was a third team AVCA all-America selection and LSC Defensive Player of the Year. Moronu has been named LSC Pre-Season Setter of the Year after earning LSC first team honors a year ago.

Also returning are all-LSC second team picks Jordan Schilling and Jennie Hutt. They finished first and second, respectively, in kills for the Wildcats with more than 340 kills. Junior libero Kelsie Edwards returns to the Wildcat lineup as well after finishing in the top 10 in the LSC in digs.
Rounding out the Wildcats will be Heather Leyva, who enters her second season and will push with freshmen Whitney Stevens and Neely Borger to play alongside Hines. Stevens and Borger bring plenty of winning experience to ACU as both won Texas state championships in their respective classifications.
Helping on the outside will be Maddie Robinett and Aubree Vick, who look for playing time with Schilling and Hutt. Other Wildcats looking for court time include Kalynne Allen, Allie Rostron, Cambra Hughes, and Caley Johnson.
Practices will continue as the Wildcats open the season Sept. 3-4 at Colorado School of Mines Tournament in Golden, Colo.
