CARY, N.C. -- ACU junior outfielder Aaron Oliver was selected a first team NCAA Division II all-America performer by the American Baseball Coaches Association, which released its team Monday afternoon.
Oliver is the sixth player in ACU history to earn first team all-America honors as the Wildcat program earned a first team all-America nod for the fourth straight season. Oliver is joined on the team by teammate Will Calhoun, who is the second team all-America designated hitter.
Oliver hit .405 in his first season with the Wildcats, leading the team in hits (102), runs scored (79), doubles (22), triples (eight), home runs (14), RBI (65), total bases (182) and stolen bases (27).
He joins former all-America outfielder Mike Elkerson as the only two Wildcats to collect more than 100 hits in a season (Elkerson had 111 in 2008), and his 22 doubles are tied for fourth in ACU single-season history. His eight triples are the third-most in school history, his RBI total is tied for fourth, his home run total is third, his runs scored total is second, his total base figure is second, and his stolen bases figure is 10th in school history.
Oliver was the Lone Star Conference Player of the Year, the MVP of the LSC Post-Season Baseball Championship Tournament, and was named to the all-tournament team at the NCAA Division II South Central Region Tournament. Oliver helped the Wildcats to a program-record 50 wins in 2010, the LSC championshpi and the championship game of the regional tournament.
Calhoun led the Wildcats with a .413 batting average and hit 11 home runs and drove in 53 runs in his first season with the Wildcats. Calhoun was second on the team in hits (95), runs scored (65) and total bases (150) and was third in home runs and RBI.
Calhoun was 5-1 with a 5.10 ERA on the mound. He started 11 games on the mound for the Wildcats, giving up 78 hits, 42 runs (37 earned) and 22 walks while striking out 49 batters in 65 1/3 innings of work.
