
Oliver & Hines Named Top Athlete

ABILENE – This week ACU honored their top athletes at the annual end of year banquet. Aaron Oliver and Shawna Hines received the Paul Goad Award given each year to the top male and female athlete.
Oliver has been the catalyst for one of the top offensive units in NCAA Division II baseball. He is 26th in the country in hits with 75 hits and 46th in the nation with 22 stolen bases. The Wildcats -- ranked No. 11 in the nation -- rank in the top 20 in the nation in batting average, runs scored and hits. The Wildcats look for their second consecutive Lone Star Conference Championship as they enter this weeks' tournament as the No. 1 seed.
Hines was voted third team NCAA Division II all-America by the nation's sports information directors and honorable mention all-America by the American Volleyball Coaches' Association. Hines led the nation in total blocks (190) and blocks per set (1.58) while leading the Wildcats to a 29-6 record in 2009. She was also voted first team all-LSC and was the LSC's Defensive Player of the Year, and she was voted to the all-tournament team at the LSC Volleyball Championship Tournament.
