ABILENE, Texas - Abilene Christian University golf coach Mike Campbell announced publicly Thursday the addition of Alex and Adam Carpenter out of Little Rock, Ark. The twin brothers signed national letters of intent to join the Wildcats and both were highly touted players at Arkansas Baptist High School in Little Rock, Ark.
In four years, each brother lettered for ABHS head coach Steve Miller and led the boys' golf team to four consecutive state titles. Alex Carpenter, in addition, won the individual state championship in 2008 and 2006.
Adam Carpenter won the 3A regional golf tournament in 2006 and 2008 and had top-three finishes as the state golf tournament in each of his last two seasons.
Both brothers were awarded all-state status on multiple occasions; Alex won the honor all four years while Adam was an all-state selection in each of his past three seasons.
The Carpenter's success on the links didn't just come at the high school level, but the siblings were active in the Texas Junior Golf Association and the American Junior Golf Association where they competed and had several top finishes.
Each golfer also competed in other varsity high school sports; Alex played two seasons of varsity basketball while Adam played varsity soccer
Campbell and the Wildcats finished the 2009 golf season last week with a 19th-place finish at the NCAA Division II South Central Region Tournament. The Carpenter brothers will help bolster the ACU roster that lost seniors Michael Andruchek, Hilton Funk and Patrick Hanauer.
